Since its inception in 1997, there had been numerous attempts to build a new mosque to serve the local Muslim populace in Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia. As a growing Malaysian Information Technology and Knowledged Economy, or K-Economy hub, Cyberjaya has grown from strength to strength to become the next Silicon Valley of Malaysia with a daytime population anticipated to be around 210,000 people by the year 2020. Officiated by His Majesty Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj on 23rd June 2016, the Cyberjaya Green Mosque or officially known as the Raja Haji Fisabilillah Mosque is the first Platinum rated Green mosque in Malaysia and, most likely, as such in the world. With a capacity for up to 8,300 people, the mosque is designed to be more than a place of worship and as a local centre for Islamic activities. It is situated on a 100-acre site which will eventually be part of the new Universiti Islam Malaysia (UIM) campus and forms an integral part of the overall development complex. The design of the mosque is contemporary modern and incorporates traditional Islamic design elements. The goal of the design is to portray Islam as a progressive religion, as well as to reflect the simplicity and purity of modern Malaysian mosque architecture. The mosque was designed in line with the vision of Cyberjaya being a green city of the future. The main emphasis of the design is towards a more modern approach rather than the conventional postmodern typology, emphasising the building s sustainability elements, but retaining the spiritual design essence of Islam. The Majid Raja Haji Fisabilillah monograph is the latest addition to the ATSA Architects' publication portfolio of numerous titles on the Islamic architecture and built environment. This 133-pages thick book features exclusive glimpses and facts behind the design principles and construction progress of the mosque, added with colourful images and graphics of the mosque architectural feats in both English and Malay Languages Read more
